How much does computer repair cost at Honest Joe's?
Every price is published up front on the services and pricing page — no “call for a quote” games. A basic tune-up is $49, a full diagnostic is $25 (credited toward the repair, so it's free if you go ahead), Windows repair is $59, and full virus and malware removal is $79. As a rule Joe charges around half what the big-box counters and chain shops in the Antelope Valley charge for the same work.
Do you charge for a quote or an estimate?
No. Quotes are always free and there's no obligation. Describe the problem in plain English by phone, text, or the contact form and Joe will tell you what it likely needs and what it will cost. You're free to walk away.
What happens if you can't fix my computer?
You don't pay for the repair. On a dead machine the diagnostic fee covers the time spent finding out what's wrong, and that fee is credited toward the work if you decide to proceed — so a successful repair effectively includes the diagnosis for free. Joe will also tell you plainly when a machine isn't worth repairing rather than selling you work that doesn't make financial sense.
How long does a repair take?
Most repairs are done the same or next business day. Tune-ups, virus removal and SSD upgrades are often finished within hours. If you need it faster, there are rush and same-day tiers that move your machine to the front of the queue, and remote fixes can often start within minutes.
Do you offer a warranty on repairs?
Yes — any service with labor of $60 or more carries a 30-day labor warranty from the day you pick up. If the same problem returns in that window, Joe makes it right at no additional labor charge. Parts carry their manufacturer's warranty, normally a year, and Joe handles the claim and the swap. Full details are in the terms of service.
Where are you located? Do you have a storefront?
Honest Joe's is a service-area business, not a walk-in storefront — which is a large part of how the prices stay at half the going rate. Joe comes to you anywhere in Lancaster, Palmdale and Quartz Hill, fixes it remotely, or arranges a drop-off time by phone. Call or text (818) 403-5335 to set one up.
What areas do you serve?
The core service area is Lancaster, Palmdale and Quartz Hill, with no travel surcharge. Rosamond, Acton, Littlerock, Pearblossom, Lake Los Angeles, Leona Valley, Mojave, California City and Tehachapi are all served with a $25 out-of-area surcharge, quoted before Joe sets out. Remote support has no geographic limit at all.
Do you come to my house?
Yes. In-home service starts with a $49 service call that covers the trip out plus the first 30 minutes — enough for most diagnoses and a lot of quick fixes. If it turns into a bigger job, Joe quotes the flat rate before starting and credits the service call toward that repair, so you never pay for the visit twice. See in-home and on-site service.
Can you fix my computer without me leaving home?
Often, yes. Anything software-related — viruses, Windows errors, slowdowns, printers, email, new-computer setup — can usually be fixed over a secure remote support session. You download one small program, read Joe a code over the phone, and watch every move he makes on your own screen.
Is remote support safe? Can you see my files?
You stay in control the entire time. The session only starts when you read Joe the code, you watch everything happen live on your own monitor, and you can end the connection instantly at any point. Nothing runs in the background afterward and the connection can't be re-established without you handing over a fresh code. Joe has no reason to open personal files and won't.
Can you recover deleted files or data from a formatted drive?
Joe does logical (software) data recovery only — deleted files, formatted drives, corrupt file systems and partition damage. The single most important thing you can do is stop using the drive immediately and unplug it; every minute a drive stays in use lowers the odds. Recovery is never guaranteed and the terms are spelled out plainly before any work starts.
Can you recover data from a physically dead or clicking hard drive?
No — and Joe will tell you so rather than take your money. A drive that clicks, grinds, or isn't detected at all needs a clean-room specialist with donor parts, which is a different trade and typically costs many hundreds to several thousand dollars. Joe will confirm whether that's what you're facing and point you toward a legitimate lab instead of experimenting on your only copy.
What are your hours?
Open 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Call or text (818) 403-5335, or email [email protected] — messages sent through the site ring Joe's phone immediately, and most quotes come back within the hour during business hours.
How do I pay?
Card, through Stripe's secure hosted checkout — card details never touch this website's server. You can pay online when you book or when the work is done. Ask about other arrangements in person.
How do I check on my repair?
Every job gets a tracking number beginning with HJ-, emailed to you automatically. Enter it on the repair tracker any time to see exactly what stage your device is at, from received through testing to ready for pickup.
Do you build custom PCs?
Yes — gaming rigs, work machines and budget builds, from parts selection through assembly, OS install and testing. Joe has been building PCs since he was 13 and holds a degree in Electronic and Computer Technology. See upgrades and custom builds.
Do you set up servers or NAS storage?
Yes — this is home turf. Joe runs his own servers, NAS boxes and a virtualization lab, and sets up the same for homes and small businesses: NAS setup, small-business servers, automatic backups that actually run, media servers and home labs. Small-business server setup is done on-site and the price includes the out-call charge. Every backup gets a restore test before Joe calls it finished — a backup nobody has ever restored from is a hope, not a backup.
Can you help if I was scammed by a fake tech-support popup?
Yes, and it's more common than most people think — the calls claiming to be Microsoft or a bank, the popup with a phone number that won't close. Joe removes whatever remote-access software they installed, checks what they touched, hardens the machine, and walks you through which accounts and cards to secure. There's no lecture. It happens to careful people.
What if I leave my device with you and forget to pick it up?
You'll get at least two notices. A device left unclaimed 90 days after you're told the work is done — or 90 days after last contact if you can't be reached — is treated as abandoned and may be sold, recycled or disposed of, as California law permits, with any personal data securely wiped first. The full policy is in the terms of service.
